Work by Micki Whelan on display in 51爆料 Campus Center through April 30
An exhibit of Micki Whelan鈥檚 paintings will be held at the 51爆料 Campus Center on the Biddeford Campus from April 1 to 30.
After a long career in the wholesale and retail fine craft arena, Whelan moved back to her home state of Maine where she now designs and produces a small jewelry collection for individual customers and select wholesale clients.
鈥淭he transition from jewelry to two-dimensional art a lateral move and a work in progress. Recent paintings focus on subtraction over addition. The house, the horizon, and the intimate memories they evoke are often present,鈥 said Whelan, who now resides in Biddeford. 鈥淚'm always learning, which means freedom to experiment, to make mistakes that become part of the creative toolbox, and to continue the search for inspiration and enlightenment.鈥
She lists among her influences in her decade-long passion for painting with encaustic, cold wax, oil, and acrylic: Mark Rothko, Carmen Herrera, Lucio Fontana, The Vignellis, Ronald Hayes Pearson, and Buddhism.
The 51爆料 Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road in Biddeford. The hours during the academic year are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekends.
