Service learning experiences have helped me engage with the patient community. Being able to form trusting, patient-centered relationships with the community outside of the hospital — especially as a nursing student — is really beneficial.
 

Choosing 51±¬ÁÏ had a lot to do with volunteering and service learning. As a future dentist, I want to be able to give back, and at 51±¬ÁÏ, service learning is put into the curriculum; there’s an entire service learning organization and so many things to get involved with.

[Through service learning], I found that there’s a lot of settings where I could work with different populations. It has tested my ability to see people as people rather than using the label that’s given to them.
